Did this solve your problem? I think this card reader always had problems even in XP when i put in a card into it, it used to freeze my whole computer, I could do nothing till I remove the card. You may try disabling the other modems and network adapters, from the Device Manager, that may be conflicting with the Qualcomm Atheros Wireless Network Adapter and check if the issue persists. If I enable these Ad5006eg controllers afterwards everything is working fine, even the Atheros adapter. Windows OSes usually apply a generic driver that allows systems to recognize the wireless component.

Found this reply to be extremely helpful, was running from one forum to another for help, did everything from re-installing the drives and what not, finally was thinking of moving back to re-installing windows 8 from windows 8.
